Taekwondo Poomsae (Forms)

black belt poomsaeTHE STUDIO teaches traditional Kukkiwon poomsae (forms). These are the forms that students will learn in class.

Taegeuk Il-Jang – represents the “Keon” which means Heaven and Light. It is the source of creation, the beginning. This poomsae has 18 movements.

Taegeuk Yi-Jang – represents the “Tae” which means strength of mind. This poomsae has 18 movements.

Taegeuk Sam-Jang – represents the “Ra” which means sun, fire and light. This poomsae has 20 movements.

Taegeuk Sah-Jang – represents the “Jin” which means thunder and brave. To remain calm in the face of danger. This poomsae has 20 movements.

Taegeuk Oh-Jang – represents the “Seon” which symbolizes the wind, meaning both mighty force and calmness. This poomsae has 20 movements.

Taegeuk Yook-Jang – represents the “Gam” which symbolizes water, meaning incessant flow and softness. This poomsae has 19 movements.

Taegeuk Chil-Jang – represents the “Gan” which symbolizes the mountain, meaning with great weight and firmness. This poomsae represents stability and the knowledge of where and when to stop. This poomsae has 25 movements.

Taegeuk Pal-Jang – represents the “Gon” which symbolized Earth. It means the root and settlement, also the beginning and end. This poomsae has 27 movements.

Black Belt – opposite of white, therefore, signifying the maturity and proficiency in Taekwondo. It also indicates the wearer’s imperviousness to darkness and fear.
